Leather riser recliner chairs: a buyer’s guide

If you’re looking to buy a leather riser recliner chair, you may well have some questions like whether they exist, if they’re otherwise any different to a fabric rise and recline chair and what colours are available.

If this sounds like you, you’re in the right place because that’s exactly what we’re going to explain in this guide!

And if you’re not quite sure if leather is right for you, we’ll also discuss its pros and cons. In just a couple of minutes, you should know exactly which way you’re best to go.

Can you buy a leather riser recliner chair?

Yes, you can absolutely choose to buy a riser recliner chair in leather rather than fabric upholstery. And it can be a genuine leather riser recliner chair too, not just faux leather!

What options are available on a leather riser recliner chair?

Our Taylor, Liberty and Maiden riser recliner chairs are available in leather. Within these 3 models, your leather riser recliner chair can be any:

  • Size e.g. petite, standard or made to measure
  • Mechanism type e.g. single or dual motor
  • Backrest style e.g. waterfall, split or lateral

You’ll also have a range of options & accessories including:

  • Arm caps
  • Battery back up
  • Reading lamp
  • Matching sofa and fireside chairs in leather

Are any options not available on a leather riser recliner chair?

  • Pressure relief: if you need an in-built pressure relief seat cushion in your riser recliner chair, you’ll need a special pressure relief upholstery to go on top. Unfortunately, leather hasn’t got these pressure relieving properties.
  • Heat and massage: this isn’t a complete no-go, but we don’t recommend combining the heat and massage option with leather. This is because leather easily absorbs sweat which, in turn, may interfere with the electrics of the heat & massage function.

What colours are available on a leather riser recliner chair?

Genuine leather a must? In which case, you’ve got almost every colour of the rainbow to choose from in Crest Leather’s Shelly, Saloon, Tempesta and Vele ranges.

Real leather examples:

Crest Saloon Whiskey

Crest Tempesta Grey

Crest Vele Crochet

Crest Shelly Black

If, on the other hand, you’d prefer faux leather, you can opt for Ultraleather or Dolce.

If you really want to create a showpiece, you could even go for a combination of leather and fabric upholstery. As an example, you could have a leather outer with fabric inner.

How much do leather riser recliners cost?

It probably won’t surprise you to know that leather riser recliners are more expensive than their fabric equivalents. Adding genuine leather can add £540 ex VAT to the cost of the chair.

There are a few other things that make up the cost of the chair too, like size and motor type. However, an average starting price is £1500 ex VAT, which means adding leather upholstery takes the price up to around £2000 ex VAT.

You can still claim VAT relief on leather riser recliners.

Leather riser recliner chairs: pros and cons

Most people have a clear preference between a fabric riser recliner or leather. But it’s possible you’re reading this guide and you’re still not 100% sure whether you do or don’t want your chair upholstered in leather. So, here’s a quick run-through of the advantages and disadvantages of buying a leather rise and recline chair.

Pros:

  • Long lifespan (with care): although it can be prone to scratches, leather is tougher and more durable than fabric. It’s also stain-resistant and easy to clean. So, if well looked after, it will stay looking good for years to come!
  • Timeless style: quite simply, the smart elegance of leather never goes out of fashion. By contrast, fabric upholsteries are frequently updated, as trends in colours and patterns change.
  • Hypoallergenic: leather is breathable and easy to clean, so it’s a great option if you have allergies.

Cons:Leather puddling

  • Price: the initial investment is significantly higher than an equivalent fabric riser recliner. It may, however, be a more cost-effective option in the long term!
  • Temperature: leather tends to be cool when first sat on before it absorbs warmth from your body. This can mean it can feel cold in winter and hot in summer.
  • Noisy and stretches: on a riser recliner, leather is noisier option when the chair is in motion! Over time, leather also stretches so you should expect some ‘puddling’.
