Magic Mobility Extreme X8 vs Quantum Outback All-Terrain Powerchair – An Honest Comparison

Positives of the Extreme X8

  • More compact than the Outback – The X8 is slightly smaller than the Outback, which may be beneficial if you have limited space for storage. 
  • High max weight capacity – The X8 has a higher max capacity of 182kg, making it suitable for heavier service users. 
  • Large range of options and accessories available – Options include powered seating options, battery upgrades, and a range of RAM® mounting systems for mobile phones, tablets, cameras and cup holders.

Drawbacks of the Extremes X8

  • Shorter range on on a full charge – The X8 has a max range of 12 miles on a full charge, which is less than the Outback’s maximum range of 17 miles.
  • Less ground clearance than the Outback – The X8 has 25mm less ground clearance than the Outback, which could lead to certain obstacles or kerbs being insurmountable on the X8. 
  • Smaller tyres than the Outback – Similarly, the X8 has smaller tyres than the Outback, which could lead to it struggling with certain terrains.

Positives of the Outback

  • High torque 4-pole motors – The Outback employs independent 4-pole motors on each of its wheels, resulting in higher torque at low speeds. 
  • Better off-road capabilities than the X8 – At least on paper, the Outback is better specced to handle offroad terrain than the X8, due to its larger tyres, high torque motors, and better ground clearance.   • Tighter turning radius than the X8 – The Outback’s turning radius of 125cm is tighter than the X8’s turning radius of 201cm, making the chair more manoeuvrable. 
  • Large range of options and accessories available – Great range of options and accessories including new camo colour choices, 10in of power adjustable safe seat elevation at speeds of up to 3.2mph and Quantum backup camera

Drawbacks of the Outback

  • Larger than the X8 – The Outback is slightly larger than the X8 (32mm wider and 37mm longer), which could lead to space and storage challenges, depending on the space you have available. 
  • Lower max weight capacity – The lower max weight capacity of 159kg may be restrictive for certain users.
