Suffolk One College | Hygiene Rooms Fit-Out

Project type: Fitout of 6 Hygiene Rooms with overhead hoisting & changing benches
Client: Suffolk County Council
Location: Ipswich, Suffolk

Background to the project

Suffolk One College is a £65 million project built to provide applied and vocational training for up to 2,000 16-19-year-olds.

This design & build project was a collaboration between Suffolk County Council, 14 regional education institutions and the Learning & Skills Council (LSC).

Our partnership & solution

Following extensive consultation, Felgains was selected to partner with Suffolk County Council to fit out the 6 Hygiene Rooms with the necessary care equipment for this project.

Working closely with the Design Team, Felgains specified, supplied and installed 6 Robin h-track ceiling track hoist systems, 3 changing benches and 5 Advance mobile hoists.

The Robin Overhead Hoist was chosen due to its unique twin-tape design which means that no spreader bar is required. This removes the risks to dementia sufferers associated with a traditional spreader bar.

A wheelchair lift in the vehicle workshop and many other items of ancillary care equipment were also provided.

Project Outcome

Working closely to a tight schedule, Felgains successfully delivered the project on time ahead of the school premises officially opening in 2019.

Since opening, Suffolk One has achieved a ‘Very Good’ BREEAM rating, featuring solar water heating, rainwater harvesting and an inter-seasonal Heat Transfer system, which collects thermal energy from under a large bus drop-off area and stores this in 100-metre-deep boreholes outside the building perimeter.

The College was assessed as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted in May 2015.
